The Daily Notes -- August 29, 1911 FLORISTS RUSHED WITH MANY ORDERS
Unable to Supply Demand for Blossoms for Caskets of The Dead
ONE $35 ORDER UNFILLED
There was a great demand for flowers for the funerals held Monday night and Tuesday, and many beautiful blossoms and handsome designs were used. There was hardly a casket among the 26 that was not adorned with blossoms.
Last night a common sight on the streets was people carrying huge boxes containing flowers. They were on their way to one of the many houses where a victim of the catastrophe lay.
H. R. Thompson, a florist on East Pike street, could not meet the demand and had to refuse orders placed with him today. Miss Dora M. Donaldson, a clerk in Mr Thompson’s store, said today: “We handled a great number of flowers and filled every order we could, but we couldn’t fill all. There was one order for $35 worth of flowers, given late, which we could not fill. There (pointing to a small bunch of roses) is all we have left.
