Seven Pupils Killed in the Disaster of Saturday Night --- Social Events Cancelled
Principals F. W. McVay and E. F. McWilliams announced today that the opening of the public schools on both sides of the creek is postponed one week, on account of the disaster Saturday night. This announcement was made in all the Sunday schools today.
It was deems best by the school board and principals, in view of the overwhelming sorrow that has swept over Canonsburg, that it would be best to postpone the opening of the schools until after the funerals of the victims are held. The schools will therefore not open until Monday, September 4.
Seven school children lost their lives, and a number received severe injuries. Two of the children attended the Third ward school and five the schools in the old borough. The list:
Old Borough - George Kay, Walter Neish, Frances Byrd, Murray Hill and Elizabeth Gledditsch.
Third ward - Paul Mastic, Marcella Robinson
