The Morgan Opera House Project

This website is a repository for information regarding the Morgan Building, a historic structure in Canonsburg, Pa.

Completed in 1891, the Morgan Building was the centerpiece of Canonsburg's downtown -- situated at the intersection of its two busiest streets. It was an enormous structure for the the town at that time, featuring seven storefronts, several offices and an auditorium that was eventually capable of seating over nine hundred.

Twenty years after it was built, the building was the site of a theater panic which cost the lives of twenty-six people.

In the years since, memory of that event, and of the theater itself, has faded. I'm hoping to build here a compendium of all of the information provided to me by Jim Herron and Gina Nestor, which I've employed in creating a computer model of the Opera House as it existed nearly one hundred years ago.

Furthermore, I'm hoping to organize the information in some meaningful way that the Society or any curious person might find useful for research.
